WHO WE ARE

Founded in 2010
We were founded by Dr Matt Brearley PhD in 2010 to support organisations maximise the health, safety and performance of heat-exposed workers. Matt is Australia's pre-eminent occupational heat stress consultant, a Thermal Physiologist, an Adjunct Professor, and former Accredited Exercise Scientist of the year. University trained heat stress educator Laura has been utilising her knowledge and education skills to make a difference for workers in the heat since 2020.

no bro-SCIENCE
The impacts of heat exposure are too serious for individuals and organisations to be managed based upon guesswork, mythology and/or anecdotes. This fake science or as we call in “Bro-science” spreads rapidly on site in the absence of credible evidence.
So, we collect and apply evidence from the field to guide industry practice. Recognising the value of evidence shouldn't be a surprise given that the boss is a scientist. But it’s the field experience, passion to assist workers combined with the evidence that makes the difference.

awards
Awards, yep, we’ve won a few. These include a Research and Innovation Award in the NT through to being recognised at the NSW Mining Awards and more recently, the 2024 QLD Mining Industry Health and Safety Awards. Assisting heat-exposed workers is its own reward, especially when life-saving. In that regard, Energy QLD won the Best Solution of a Workplace Health and Safety Risk for a large business at the 2025 National Safety Awards of Excellence for the implementation of a heat stroke treatment kit for field workers. In addition to preventing heat strokes, in 2023, the kit was used to save a workers life. We are proud of our work on that project and our ongoing role with Energy QLD.
