About Us

Dr Matt Brearley is Australia's pre-eminent occupational heat stress consultant, conducting and applying research to guide industry practice. 

In 2010, he founded Thermal Hyperformance in response to demand from occupational groups requiring assistance to deal with harsh environmental conditions. 
He holds a PhD in Thermal Physiology and was the heat specialist of the 2008 Australian Olympic team in Beijing, China prior to focusing on occupational heat stress. Matt provides practical heat stress mitigation services to a wide range of industries including mining, construction, oil and gas, utilities, transportation, law enforcement and emergency services. His work has been acknowledged with awards for research and innovation, best conference paper and presentations, recognition by the Australian Institute of Policy and Science, as a NSW Mining Awards finalist and as the 2018 Accredited Exercise Scientist of the Year.

Matt is a founding member of the Heat Stress Research Partnership of the Northern Institute, Charles Darwin University, with recognition as a University Fellow. He collaborates with a range of institutions to address heat-related issues, including Menzies School of Health Research, Charles Sturt University, Bond University, Central Queensland University and RMIT.
